We have a Word Wall in our Classroom!
Each week there are between 5 - 9 words introduced. There are three or four words that follow a specific rule. The other words are "sight words." Such words include 'and, you, to, of, the, was...' and these words do not follow a rule and cannot be sounded out. These words need to be memorized so when you child sees them while reading, he/she does not get stuck or frustrated. These are words that appear frequently in everyday sentences.
The "sight words" are the words that are placed on the Word Wall.
The other words are not going to be posted in the classroom and need to be memorized.
As we introduce our spelling words, I will keep an updated list on this page. The words in bold are this week's spelling words.
Pattern Words (these words are NOT displayed in the classroom)
short a sound: at, tan, fat, nap, ham
short i sound: in, tip, sit, dig, sift
short o sound: on, fond, lost, soft, spot
(ng) sound: bang, fling, hang, song
short u sound: up, run, but, jump, just
Irregular Words (these words ARE placed on the word wall)
the, you, of, to, do, are, come, some, does, was
