Wordprocessing
- I. Student Uses
- Before you have your students use the word processing software, do the following:
- Select an appropriate font. Avant Garde is good because of the rounded a's.
- Increase the size of the font to 24 or 36.
- A. Word processing software is useful for students who need to practice their alphabet. Do not worry about making sure that the students use proper keyboarding skills. Students can use the "hunt and peck" typing method to find and type the various letters of the alphabet.
- B. Students can practice typing their name, address and phone number.
- C. Have your students type vocabulary words, and perhaps sentences or a story, that creatively and correctly uses the words.
- D. Creating a progressive story is another way for students to use your word processing software. You may want to start the story by writing a good introduction. Individuals or pairs of students can read what was written and add the next paragraph. A twist to collaborative story writing is to use a well-known book, such as The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, to pattern your progressive story after. Your class can progressively write "The Spring Day". Note:If your students are too young to write, have them dictate to an older student or to a classroom volunteer.
