Week 9
stricken – (adj. or v) hit, wounded, or affected by (a weapon, disease, trouble, or sorrow)
vivid – (adj.) very active or intense; full of life; lively
brusque – (adj.) abrupt in manner speech; blunt
prolong – (v) to make longer; extend in time; stretch; lengthen
tantalize – (v) torment or tease by keeping something desired in sight but out of reach, or by holding out hopes that are repeatedly disappointed

Note to PARENTS: We are starting our weekly vocabulary .We will have a quiz every Friday. The students will need to know the definition of the words and be able to use the words in context. They also need to know how to spell the words. They will have meaningful sentences due on Thursday. Thanks for all of your support!

Monday: Vocabulary Week 9 (note change to pre AP list); Read and discuss Number the Stars Ch. 8 in regular classes; read Ch.9 and discuss in The Devil's Arithmetic
Tuesday: Grammar (prepositions) activity. Reg- Ch. 8-10 questions for Number the Stars; Pre AP- Devil's Arithmetic Ch. 8-10 question
Wednesday: Reg- Complete TAKS stem questions for Number the Stars; Pre AP complete TAKS questions for Ch. 5-7 in Devil's Arithmetic. Discuss and begin discussion questions.
Thursday: Meaningful sentences due for Week 9; Watch The Miracle at Moreaux and discuss similarities in The Devil's Arithmetic and Number the Stars. W
Friday: Week 9 Vocabulary Quiz; Complete The Miracle at Moreaux

Tuesday: Holocaust Power Point, Discuss man vs. man conflict, begin Holocaust journals
Wednesday: Vocab. coach and meaningful sentence review, Read Ch. 4 in Number the Stars. Meaningful sentences for Week 5 will be assigned for homework.
Thursday: Visit library to return and check out books, and visit the Book Fair! Bring money if you want to make a purchase at the Book Fair!!
Friday: Vocabulary Week 5 quiz. Read Ch. 5 in Number the Stars.
