Class Overview
It is our goal in the physical education department to educate each student to the importance of wellness and active lifestyle through activities, social interaction, and leadership responsibility. Physical Education is more than just a time to "play". Each student will be put in situations to improve not only their physical status, but to interact and learn from each other through team sport, leadership roles, and social activity. I look at physical education as a very unique way for students to develop other than a typical classroom setting.
Grading
Each student is required by the state the "dress out" during physical education classes involving activity. This year the PE department have arranged for PE uniforms through a local vendor. Each day of class students will be required to "dress-out" as they come to class. They will be issued a locker in our PE locker room, as well as a lock if needed to secure their valuables. The PE department and BHS are not responsible for any missing or stolen items that may occur in the locker rooms. Students are encouraged to keep their locker combinations private and secure values each time they arrive to class. No student is to share a locker for safety purposes.
Each student will be required to participate in activities designated by the PE department head. Each day, students begin by walking for 20-25 minutes. They will then be able to choose and activity or participate in the designated activity for the day. Students are expected to participate in every activity unless they have a documented condition that would disable them from the activity. We will accept a note from a parent to excuse a student ONCE each six week. Further excuse from activity will require a doctor's note or administrator approval.
Each student must "dress-out" in order to receive participation credit. Failure to do so will result in a zero for both grades and alternative assignment.
