Discipline in My Classroom

I usually tell my kids that I am mean and strict.  They smile and never believe me.  The reason I tell them this is because I am one of those teachers who believe in enforcing the rules and keeping the class structured.

I practice the district's Love and Logic for Classroom Management.
The basic philosophy for Love and Logic is to put the responsibility for actions back into the kids' court.  Any student of mine will be held responsible for his actions.  If he or she is not able to solve the problem then I will step in and handle it for them.  You might want to inform your child that pleading does not work.  I have two kids of my own and it doesn't work for them either.

I expect students to be in my room and seated, and ready to work by the time class begins.  If they are not, then they are considered tardy.   If they have a class on the other side of the building then they will need to hustle to get to class on time.  This year, passing periods will only be 4 minutes long and students will have to cut down on visiting time in the hallways.
