Hughes Middle School 8th grade Language Arts Grading Policy
Grading Policies – Students receive a six-week average based on two sources: Daily and
summative grades.
Daily grades – count as 50% of the six-weeks average
- Minimum of 9 assignments given per six-weeks period
- Activities like:
- Class participation
- Daily quizzes
- Daily class practice
- Class work (completed in class and due at end of period)
Summative grades – count as 50% of the six-weeks average
- 25% of the summative grade is the Accelerated Reader grade
- 25% of the grade for activities like:
Projects
Presentations
Late work
Late work cannot be accepted for Accelerated Reader assessment. Work completed at the end of the grading period will be graded as is and the grade stands.
Summative assignments will be accepted according to BISD Policy
Make-up Work Due to Student Absence
Students shall have a time equal to the number of days absent from class to complete all missed assignments. For example, if a student is absent two days, he receives two days to complete the work missed during the two-day absence.
Progress reports
All students receive a progress report after the third week.
Report cards
A grade of 69 is not awarded
